2024 also saw us secure unique partnerships and contracts that strengthen our mission:
  • We partnered with Naturalis Biodiversity Center and Nattergal for a first-of-its-kind purchase of carbon removal credits from a rewilding project worth 100 euros per tonne. We joined forces with Nattergal to support Naturalis’ efforts to offset emissions from employee travel while setting a precedent for global financing of rewilding projects. The credits were sold from Nattergal’s Boothby Wildland project, spanning 617 hectares, which combines carbon sequestration with biodiversity restoration, making it a model for large-scale, nature-driven carbon removal solutions.
  • In a groundbreaking deal, we worked with CUR8 to support British Airway’s purchase of 3,000 tonnes of carbon removal credits from our partners’ projects, Montgreenan and Abergavenny. The collaboration used a unique stacking method to combine Woodland Carbon Code and Sequoia Carbon Pending Units, extending the lifespan of carbon sequestration efforts. This pioneering approach set a new benchmark for the durability and permanence of carbon removal projects, aligning with British Airways’ net-zero goals for 2050 and advancing the role of nature-based solutions in climate action.
  • We teamed up with Octopus Investments under the UK Space Agency’s “Unlocking Space for Business” programme to integrate satellite-based analytics into Octopus’s natural capital investment strategy. The project will use Earth observation and AI data to enhance due diligence, monitoring, and reporting for nature restoration projects. This partnership aims to streamline investment in high-quality carbon and natural capital projects, ultimately increasing transparency and confidence in private finance flows to address the $700B global nature funding gap.

By participating in Kita’s Best Match Method, we provide replacement credits for insurance claims, enhancing market reliability and enabling more participants to engage in carbon credit transactions confidently.
  • Tripshift, a carbon accounting platform transforming how businesses manage transport and Scope 3 emissions, partnered with us to offer our nature-based carbon removal credits through their app. By connecting their customers to Treeconomy’s marketplace, Tripshift simplifies access to high-quality offsetting solutions.
  • We established a strategic partnership with Net Zero expert consultancy Ampersand Partners to expand the reach of Treeconomy’s nature-based carbon removal projects. Together, we aim to broaden access to high-quality nature restoration projects, drive investment in initiatives tackling climate change and biodiversity loss, and support businesses achieving Net Zero with practical, high-integrity solutions.
  • We joined forces with Zopeful Climate, a leader in creating portfolios of durable carbon removal solutions, to make high-quality carbon credits more accessible. Zopeful’s focus on democratising access to premium carbon removal aligns perfectly with our vision of delivering durable, auditable, and quantified credits at less than $100/t. Through their Carbon Removal Portfolio-1, Zopeful connects businesses to vetted, high-integrity credits like ours, backed by science and robust monitoring.

Key Memberships: Expanding Our Influence

This year, strategic memberships with global initiatives shaping the future of nature-based solutions were significant. By joining influential forums and alliances, we demonstrated our commitment to driving transparency, innovation, and collaboration in the voluntary carbon market.
  • We joined the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Forum, composed of a global network of multidisciplinary institutions working together to provide businesses and capital markets with high-quality information on nature-related risks through corporate reporting. This initiative supports better risk management for enterprises and investors, enhancing nature-related projects and developments. By joining this influential group, we stay updated on TNFD’s essential work and actively contribute to their technical initiatives.
  • We joined the Nature Tech Collective (NTC), a global network using technology for accurate nature measurement. NTC connects experts to advance data and solutions for conservation. Our platforms, Sherwood and our marketplace, utilise MRV technology for transparent carbon removal data. Collaboration with NTC helps us scale restoration efforts using advanced remote sensing and AI, enhancing project credibility and market confidence.
  • We became members of the Nature Finance Certification Alliance (NFCA). This alliance is instrumental in shaping the future of nature finance transactions in the UK. As members, we were committed to advancing transparency and integrity in the voluntary carbon and biodiversity credit markets. Treeconomy’s focus on using robust MRV technology aligned perfectly with the NFCA’s mission to ensure that natural capital investment delivered economic, social, and environmental impacts.
  • We made a major achievement by joining the Katapult Ocean Accelerator Program 2024 cohort. Among more than 2,000 candidates from across six continents, Treeconomy was selected as one of the top 1% to join this prestigious accelerator. The program is designed to prepare companies for scaling, offering workshops, mentoring, pitch training, and investor presentations. Katapult's rigorous selection process underscored the quality and impact of our work, and we were excited to continue our journey with them.
